La Serrée is a hamlet in the commune of Mesmont (arrondissement of Dijon, canton of Sombernon) located near Prâlon. This locality has been inhabited since a very ancient time, since a Gallo-Roman villa probably already occupied this site. Since the end of the 18th century, the hamlet has housed the current Louis XVI-style castle built at the start of the Revolution: "The property was located on a small, more or less arid eminence composed like the surrounding small mountains of more or less visible rocks and small spaces covered with fine, short grass; not far from the houses was a narrow and narrow gorge through which flowed a small torrent, hence the name of La Serrée. "
Parent of the famous but infinitely less well known musician, Just RAMEAU became the owner of La Serrée in 1789, by succession, while he was still a lawyer at the Parliament of Burgundy. He owned it until his death in 1827.
In the following years, from 1790 to 1794, he transformed the mansion into a "charming dwelling", the present château, and had the"French garden" and orchard established at the foot of the façade of the terraced gardens, completed in a completely different style by the "romantic valley" of the Goulotte stream, which he planted with a variety of forest species. His garden is a reflection of his personality, as is his "house", which is stamped with his soul, at once classic and romantic, bucolic and Cartesian.
